HBO Picks Up Aaron Sorkin Show About Cable News

HBO has picked up Aaron Sorkin's series about a cable news network. The new show will star Jeff Daniels as an anchorman with a team including Maggie (Alison Pill), Jim (John Gallagher Jr.), Sloan (Olivia Munn), Neal (Dev Patel) and Don (Thomas Sadoski). Emily Mortimer plays executive producer MacKenzie and Law & Order vet Sam Waterson is the boss, Charlie.

HBO has picked up Aaron Sorkin's series about a cable news network.

In announcing the pickup Thursday, HBO said: "Together they set out on a patriotic and quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles and their own personal entanglements."

Sorkin, an Oscar winner for adapting the Academy Award's 2010 Best Picture winner The Social Network, wrote ABC's Sports Night and NBC's Emmy-winning The West Wing; he will executive-produce the upcoming series along with Scott Rudin and Alan Poul.
