Freeform's newest comedy, grown-ish only premiered three weeks ago, but it already has a Season 2 pickup. Well, that certainly didn't take long!

At today's inaugural Freeform Summit, executive vice president, programming & development, Karey Burke, surprised grown-ish series lead, Yara Shahidi, with the news that the network has ordered a second season of the breakout comedy.

Freeform's grown-ish, a half-hour comedy tackling current social issues and complexities facing both students and administrators, follows Zoey (Yara Shahidi), the popular, entitled, stylish and socially active 17-year-old daughter of black-ish's Dre (Anthony Anderson) and Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross) Johnson as she navigates the world of college.

So far, the show has taken on traditional teen topics like the first days at a new school, a serious case of FOMO and the ups and downs of on-campus crushes.

"What I appreciate about [Zoey's] story is that she's not perfect, and yet you see her still find a way to thrive," Shahidi says.

grown-ish airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on Freeform.
