Why Grey's Anatomy's Extra Episodes Probably Mean Tragedy Is Imminent

Three more episodes = three more hours in which they can break our hearts

Ready for even more Grey's Anatomy this year? ABC announced Monday that it has ordered three additional episodes of Grey's Anatomy this season, bringing the final episode count for Season 15 up to 25. Hurrah!

While we're jumping for joy at the news of more Grey's, these extra episodes ordered may not be such a great thing for the hard-working doctors of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. As you may be aware, Grey's Anatomy has established a pretty noticeable trend over the years when it comes to their season finales. About every other year, Grey's Anatomy caps off its season with a horrifying disaster like a shooting, a plane crash, a fire, you name it! Season 14's finale episode was full of joy and closure, taking place at Alex (Justin Chambers) and Jo's (Camilla Luddington) wedding, so that means it's time for trouble (and maybe even a major character death) this year!

Could these extra episodes be building in another shocking catastrophe? Keep your favorite characters close, because we've got a feeling some of them might not make it to Season 16.

Grey's Anatomy returns Thursday, Jan. 17 at 8/7c on ABC.
