Jerrika Hinton, who plays Stephanie Edwards on Grey's Anatomy, has signed on to play the female lead in the upcoming Shondaland comedy pilot Toast, Deadline reports.

Hinton will star opposite Jono Kenyon in the ABC pilot about an engaged couple, Max (Kenyon) and Page (Hinton), whose relationship trajectory is revealed through flashbacks corresponding with toasts given on the night of their wedding rehearsal dinner.

According to Deadline, Hinton's character Page is "Max's confident, no-nonsense, self-aware, soon-to-be bride. She's spent most of her life working very hard but feeling a bit sheltered by her well-to-do Texas family."

Toast will be executive-produced by Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers, and written/executive-produced by Greg Grunberg and Scandal's Scott Foley.

The project will reunite Hinton with her former Grey's co-star Tessa Ferrer, who's playing the tomboyish BFF of Kenyon's character.

There's no word on what this will mean for Hinton's role as a series regular on Grey's Anatomy. According to Deadline, if Toast is given a series order, it would be possible for her to do both shows if she scales back her role on Grey's.

Hinton shared the news on Twitter, saying she's "so, so happy" about the role.
