When ABC's Grand Hotel flings open its doors Monday, guests will discover a breathtaking atrium glistening with shiny tiles, luxurious modern furniture, and the soothing blues and corals forever linked to Miami. Those who stay a while at Grand Hotel will see something else behind the fabulous facades though: lots and lots of messy drama from the Mendoza family, which runs the place but faces some serious trouble behind the scenes. The family patriarch remarried a woman with potentially sketchy motives, their kids are fighting with each other, the hotel's books are questionable, and on one dark and stormy night, someone on staff has vanished.
Part family drama, part thriller and all the way sexy, Grand Hotel welcomes visitors into a sprawling space where everyone looks trustworthy but has much more going on behind their smiles. Many characters fill out the Eva Longoria-produced soap, but here are the main ones who'll be showing visitors world class hospitality with a smile... and while holding knives behind their backs.
Santiago Mendoza (Demian Bichir)
Patriarch of the Mendoza family, Santiago has been running the Riviera Grand Hotel for years, a property that's been in the family for decades. But now that he's remarried after the death of his wife, and got a great offer on the place, he's considering selling it so he can spend his days lounging with his new bride. That, however, doesn't sit well with his daughter Alicia and son Javi, who don't particularly care for dad's new wife and don't trust her either. But after a mysterious disappearance starts to unravel some truths, Santiago's kids might learn that their father isn't so squeaky clean either.
Gigi Mendoza (Roselyn Sanchez)
Until scientists discover sharks than can walk, Gigi's the closest thing to one. Wife of Santiago, Gigi was his wife's best friend before she died — a fact that rankles Santiago's children — but she's also a shrewd power player in her own right too. She says she loves Santiago for his heart but his vast fortune doesn't hurt either. Is she really in Santiago's corner or is she already looking to redecorate it without him?
Alicia Mendoza (Denyse Tontz)
Santiago's strong-willed daughter is fresh out of business school... and fresh out of effs to give when it comes to pretending to like her new stepmom or her stepsisters. But she'll make a huge discovery about her dad when the series begins and, owing to her strong B.S. detector, that won't be the last one. She's also embarking on a romance with a staffer sure to complicate her life and cause some things to come to light she hadn't expected at all.
Javi (Bryan Craig)
Alicia's promiscuous brother Javi has an addiction to the ladies, and a chip on his shoulder. An amputee from an accident with a dubious story, Javi knows his father thinks he's the less serious sibling of the two and their tension sets up riffs and rivalries that could put the whole business and family at risk.
Carolina (Feliz Ramirez)
Gigi's glamorous daughter loves two things: men and men with money, the latter more than the former. She's manipulative, cunning, and laser-focused on climbing the social ladder, no matter the cost. Does that alienate her less vivacious twin sister? Who cares?
Yoli (Justina Adorno)
She may not be considered as beautiful as her twin sister Carolina (which Carolina does not hesitate to remind her at every opportunity) but Yoli has smarts and, not for nothing, is irresistible to guys too. She's just not as thirsty — and not as likely to be caught unawares. Carolina would be wise to watch her. But of course, she's preoccupied...
Danny (Lincoln Younes)
A new hire on the property, Danny is absolutely not who he says he is at all and he has one goal: to find out what happened to young staffer who disappeared. His mission will lead him to uncovering some secrets the Mendozas would really prefer stay buried, which won't help his blossoming romance with the owner's daughter Alicia at all.
Mrs. P. (Wendy Raquel Robinson)
Head of staff Mrs. P. takes no crap from anyone, and though she's got a soft spot for the Mendozas — she's known and worked for them half her life — she puts the fear of god in everyone else she sees. She's not easy to pull one over on, and when she gets wind of Danny's snooping, he's going to find out she's even more scary than everyone thought.
Ingrid (Anne Winters)
The former roommate of the young woman who went missing one terrible night, Ingrid is a maid on staff but you could say that she makes more messes than she cleans up.
Mateo (Shalim Ortiz)
As Santiago's business affairs guy, Mateo knows where the checks come from and where the bodies are buried... perhaps literally. He looks clean cut in his suit and tie but Mateo is an expert at handling the dirty work — duties not even Santiago may be fully aware of.
Grand Hotel premieres Monday at 10/9c on ABC.
