Smith lost album of the year to Beck, who also won rock album for Morning Phase, and pop solo performance to Pharrell Williams for "Happy."

Williams also won best music video for "Happy" and urban contemporary album for Girl during the pre-show, while Beyonce snagged R&B song and R&B performance for "Drunk in Love," and surround sound album for her eponymous EP. She has now won 20 Grammys, surpassing Aretha Franklin for second most won by a female artist. (Alison Krauss leads with 27.)
Kendrick Lamar and Eminem split the rap categories, with the former winning rap performance and rap song for "i" and the latter taking rap/sung collaboration with Rihanna for "Monster" and rap album for The Marshall Mathers LP 2. Eminem has now won an unprecedented six best rap album Grammys.
