Gotham: Is Shane West About to Bring a Major Batman Villain to Life?

Um, someone keep him away from Bruce please!

Lindsay MacDonald

Gotham's final run is shaping up to be a big one, and if you don't believe us, look no further than the latest casting news! Deadline reports that Shane West has been tapped to play a new character named Eduardo Dorrance in Season 5.

According to the character description, Dorrance is an old army buddy of Jim Gordon's (Benjamin McKenzie). "Having lost touch with Jim after the war, Dorrance returns to Gotham years later, leading a team of elite soldiers with the goal of helping Gordon restore order to No Man's Land. But as the scales fall from Gordon's eyes, he realizes Dorrance's true intentions in Gotham are much darker and more evil than he could have believed."

Gotham's Final Season Will Be Shorter Than You Thought

While Eduardo Dorrance sounds like a cool enough villain on his own, there's some hidden potential for him to make a lot of Batman fans very happy. In the comics, Dorrance just so happens to be the surname of Bane's father, Sir Edmund Dorrance (aka King Snake). It's not too far of a leap to wonder if Eduardo Dorrance might actually turn out to be Bane himself, bringing one of the most iconic Batman villains of all time to Gotham!

This little theory is further supported by the list of episode titles released last month, which includes Episode 8: "I am Bane." Do you think West can match Tom Hardy's creep-tastic version of Bane from The Dark Knight Rises?

Gotham returns in 2019 on Fox.
