Following her manager's launch of a Twitter campaign earlier this year aimed at scoring Spears her own Madonna-style tribute, Glee creator Ryan Murphy tells Entertainment Tonight that such an episode is now in the works.
The all-Britney episode follows in the footsteps of the Madonna-centered "Power of Love" hour, one of the series' most-watched telecasts. But we have to wonder if an all-Spears episode is really a good idea?
The Material Girl provided more than two decades of material for McKinley High's glee club to choose from, ranging from early hits such as "Like a Virgin" to 2008's "4 Minutes," but Spears' oeuvre is decidedly more limited. And do we really want to watch Rachel belt "Dear Diary?" (Sample lyrics: Dear diary / Today I saw a boy / And I wondered if he noticed me / He took my break away.... OK, maybe Rachel could pull it off.)
The Madonna episode taught empowerment, perhaps Spears' ongoing personal drama is a lesson in redemption? Like dusting yourself off after shaving your head in public or attacking photographers with a big umbrella? Or recovering from some bad lip-synching at the VMAs...er, regionals?
No matter how you feel about the 28-year-old pop star, she pretty much wrote the book on second chances — post-falling-out with K-Fed, she came returned with a No. 1 album, Circus, and a sucessful worldwide tour.
What do you think about an all-Britney episode of Glee?
