FX Casts Michael Cera in Charlie Kaufman Comedy Pilot, Announces Archer CD

FX is in good shape going into the new year.
At Tuesday's Television Critics Association winter TV previews, FX CEO John Landgraf reported the cable networks was up 2 percent in the adults 18-49 demographic and 4 percent total. As for sister network FXX, which launched last year to tepid numbers, Landgraf said it performed "right where we expected."

Nuclear comedy FX has cast Michael Cera (Arrested Development) and John Hawkes (Deadwood) in Oscar-winning screenwriter Charlie Kaufman's pilot How and Why. In the half-hour comedy, a brilliant man is able to explain how and why a nuclear reactor works, but is clueless about the rest of life. Kaufman will write and direct the pilot as well as executive-produce along side Anthony Bregman.
Justifying the end of JustifiedLandgraf confirmed that Justified will end after its sixth season, even though he didn't want it to. Calling it one of his favorite shows, Landgraf says, "It was really Graham [Yost] and Tim Olyphant's decision. We talked about it last year, and they  felt the arc ... was best served by six seasons. I regretfully accepted their decision... We try not to have business drive creative."
Musical danger zone! A new 12-track Archer album will be released Monday, Feb. 17 with original music and featuring a duet between Kenny Loggins and Cherlene (Judy Greer) on "Danger Zone." The video for the song will premiere on that night's episode at 10/9c on FX.
Basic cable competition Five of the Top 20 shows last year in the 18-49 demographic were on basic cable, and that includes FX's Sons of Anarchy andAmerican Horror Story: Coven.
Halfway there FX Now, FX's nonlinear streaming app, is currently rolling out in 50 percent of U.S. homes. The app will be modeled on HBO Go, Showtime Anywhere and Watch ABC in bringing the original and acquired series, 165 film titles and all 530 episodes ofThe Simpsons from the series' first 24 seasons, starting in August. Additionally, an all-Simpsons app is also in the works.

New FX originals Landgraf confirms that new limited series Fargo, the drama Tyrant and The Strain will premiere in April, June and July respectively. Of The Strain, he claims it will "redefine the vampire drama."
Fargo Season 2? The upcoming freshman season of the limited series Fargo will have a close-ended story. If Fargo earns a second season, it would have an "entirely different self-contained story." No prospective stories have been proposed yet.
American Horror Story Landgraf doesn't have much info on the upcoming new season of American Horror Story, besides the majority of the current cast returning. But he does confirm that it will probably be another period piece.
