In news that totally sucks, Fox has canceled The Last Man on Earth after four seasons. Yep, the Will Forte comedy is officially no more.

January Jones broke the news on Thursday in a bittersweet Instagram post thanking fans for supporting the show. "To our @lastmanfox family..it's been an amazing 4yrs, thank you for all the hard work, we love you and will miss seeing you every day! And thank you to our fans who loved and laughed at these ridiculous and lovably flawed characters. @orviv your brain is a national(global?),treasure," she wrote.

The post-apocalyptic series followed Phil Miller (Forte) who believed he was the sole human left after a deadly virus wiped out most of humanity the year prior. That is until he came across other another survivor -- Carol (played by Kristen Schaal), a perky do-gooder who insisted they get married in order to repopulate the Earth with legitimate children. Over the course of the show, their group expanded to include others like Melissa (Jones), a former real estate agent, and Todd (Mel Rodriguez), a genial man who Phil initially viewed as a threat, while they search for other life.

The cancellation will also leave one big question dangling. The Season 4 finale ended on a cliffhanger as the group was surrounded by a large group of people wearing gas masks in Mexico.

Alongside Forte, Schaal, Rodriguez and Jones, the series also starred Cleopatra Coleman, Mary Steenburgen and Jason Sudeikis as Phil's brother Mike. Other big names to appear on the show included Boris Kodjoe, Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen.

The Last Man on Earth isn't the only casualty at Fox. The network also pulled the plug on Brooklyn Nine-Nine after five seasons and The Mick after two seasons.
