Fox has given a series order to Hieroglyph, an action-adventure drama set in ancient Egypt, the network announced Thursday.
Hieroglyph follows a notorious thief who is plucked from prison to serve the Pharaoh, navigating palace intrigue, seductive concubines, criminal underbellies and even a few divine sorcerers. The high-concept drama was given a 13-episode order.
Pacific Rim's Travis Beacham will write and executive-produce alongside Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope (New Girl), and Miguel Sapochnik (Fringe), who will also direct the series premiere.
"We wanted to do a show about deceit, sex, intrigue in the court and fantastical goings-on — no better place to set that than ancient Egypt," Fox's Chairman of Entertainment, Kevin Reilly, said in a statement. "Travis Beacham has an inventive mind, and he has wrapped this all together in this intoxicating new drama."
Production on Hieroglyph is set to begin early next year. Will you watch?
