After three seasons, Fox has decided not to renew The Following for a fourth run, TVGuide.com has learned.
The network has also canceled Backstrom. Creator Hart Hanson tweeted the news on Friday:

Starring Rainn Wilson, Backstrom was based on a series of Swedish novels about an eccentric, cranky detective who notices details that others don't.
The show averaged 4 million viewers over 13 episodes, and the finale, which aired on April 30, only drew 2.8 million.
Despite being a breakout hit during its first season, averaging 8 million viewers, The Following has suffered from a shifting creative direction, and most recently pulled barely 3 million viewers, becoming the lowest-rated non-CW program on Monday night.
The two-hour series finale of The Following will air Monday, May 18 at 8/7c on Fox.
