Curtain's up on a jazzy new trailer for Sam Rockwell and Michelle Williams' dance drama Fosse/Verdon.

FX's upcoming eight-episode series chronicles the decades-long partnership -- both professional and romantic -- between legendary choreographer Bob Fosse (Rockwell) and dancer and actress Gwen Verdon (Williams). Fosse's unique style, now forever associated with musicals like Chicago and Sweet Charity, is on full display in the trailer, which melds big dance numbers with the couple's sometimes-destructive relationship.

"That's what we do though isn't it?" Rockwell's Fosse says. "We take what hurts and we turn it into a big gag."

Fosse and Verdon were married in 1960 and worked together on a number of Tony Award-winning Broadway plays, including Damn Yankees (1955), New Girl In Town (1957) and Redhead (196o), during which his career accelerated from choreography to directing and filmmaking. Even after their marriage became strained and they separated in 1971, the two never divorced, and they continued to work together on projects like Chicago (1975), Dancin' (1978) and All that Jazz (1979).

The cast of Fosse/Verdon also includes Norbert Leo Butz (as Paddy Chayefsky), Aya Cash (as Joan Simon), Nate Corddry (as Neil Simon), Evan Handler (as Hal Prince) and Margaret Qualley (as Ann Reinking).

The eight-episode series is executive-produced by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Thomas Kail, Steven Levenson, Joel Fields and George Stelzner, along with Rockwell and Williams.

Fosse/Verdon premieres on FX on Tuesday, April 9 at 10/9c.
