Alien invasion drama Falling Skies has been renewed for a second season, TNT announced Thursday. The 10 episodes will begin airing next summer.
"Falling Skies is a true standout series, from its ambitious storytelling, high-profile cast and production team to its phenomenal success when it comes to international and time-shifted viewing," TNT's head of programming, Michael Wright, said in a statement. "We're reaching new audiences with Falling Skies and look forward to seeing where this fascinating and exciting series takes us next."
The hourlong series, from executive producer Steven Spielberg, stars Noah Wyle as a history professor who helps lead an army of resistance fighters protecting survivors in the wake of an alien attack.
Falling Skies became the top cable series premiere of 2011 when it debuted last month, drawing 5.9 million viewers and 2.6 million in the adults ages 18-49 demographic. The series is averaging more than 5 million viewers.
Falling Skies airs Sundays at 10/9c on TNT.
