The CW debuted its latest teen drama, All American, and this time there's no comic book characters, witches or vampires. The latest offering from the network is a grounded rags-to-riches football story, inspired by the life of NFL player Spencer Paysinger.
British actor Daniel Ezra leads the series as Spencer James, a gifted football player trying his best to make it out of Crenshaw, California, when he's recruited by Coach Baker (Taye Diggs) to come play at the much fancier Beverly Hills High. It's a classic fish-out-of-water story, complicated by secret family dynamics and 2018 politics.
Fall TV Popularity Contest: Which new shows are your favorites?
The show will tackle what it's like to be a black teen in America while still entertaining viewers with soapy twists and love triangles. Spencer already finds himself stuck between two girls at his new school in the first episode, and he's only been at Beverly Hills for a week. We'll see if he can handle that and make big plays on the field though.
