Everybody Loves Raymond Stars Pay Tribute to Doris Roberts

Everybody Loves RaymondstarRay Romano honored Doris Roberts after news broke that his co-star had passed away yesterday (April 18).

"Doris Roberts had an energy and a spirit that amazed me. She never stopped," Romano said in a statement obtained by TheWrap. "Whether working professionally or with her many charities, or just nurturing and mentoring a green young comic trying to make it as an actor, she did everything with such a grand love for life and people and I will miss her dearly."

Roberts played Romano's doting mother, Marie Barone, on Raymond for nine seasons until the hit sitcom ended in 2005.

Brad Garrett, who played Marie's other son Robert, also paid tribute to the five-time Emmy winner. "I am deeply saddened by the passing of Doris Roberts, an amazing lady and brilliant actor," Garrett said in a statement. "Doris was vibrant and full of life both on and off the stage, and I am so grateful we shared so many wonderful memories. I will miss her greatly and will always remember her incredible kindness, humor, talent and heart."

Patricia Heaton, who played Roberts' onscreen daughter-in-law on Raymond, shared her condolences on Twitter.

Roberts died in her sleep of natural causes on Monday at the age of 90. In addition to her work on Everybody Loves Raymond, she is known forher work on St. Elsewhere, Remington Steele and Angie.
