G4 viewers can breathe a sigh of relief.

The cable channel is staying alive in a surprise decision made by NBC Universal to launch its new cable network, Esquire, on Style network instead of G4, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Style, which is currently home to original programming such as Giuliana & Bill and Jerseylicious, will become Esquire Network on Sept. 23.

Fall TV's fresh faces: Stars to watch

In an internal memo obtained by THR, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment Group chairman Bonnie Hammer attributed the decision to brand overlap between the Style network and similarly female-skewed cable channels also owned by NBC Universal, including Bravo, E! and Oxygen.

"Esquire Network, on the other hand, offers an opportunity to introduce a lifestyle network that speaks to an upscale male audience underserved in the current marketplace," Hammer said in the memo.

Although some of Style's current series will air on Esquire, others will move to new homes, including Giuliana & Bill, which THR reports will likely move to E! because series star Giuliana Rancic is an E! News anchor.

Although the news is bad for Style viewers, the change of plans is good news for Esquire Network, which will now be in 75 million homes compared to G4's 62 million homes.

Originally slated to launch on April 22, Esquire Network's lineup will include new series from Anthony Bourdain and Ryan Seacrest, as well as repeats of Parks and Recreation, Party Down, Psych, Burn Notice and Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.
