Despite Andre's (Trai Byers) rapidly declining health from Stage 4 lymphoma and heart failure, Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson) is not ready to let her eldest son go. This exclusive, emotional sneak peek at Empire's Season 5 finale finds the Lyon family matriarch determined to fight for Andre's life... even if he has already given up.

In the preview, Cookie expresses her relief that Andre survived his suicide attempt before gently laying into him for not letting her in on his plans. Andre decided to end his life, with help from his father Lucious (Terrence Howard), after realizing he might not have much time left. However, Cookie swooped in at the last minute and stopped him from fulfilling his plan before dropping the bombshell that his girlfriend Teri was pregnant. Overwhelmed by the news, Andre collapsed on the spot and wound up in the hospital anyway.

Andre may have already made his peace with dying but Cookie is still hell-bent on keeping her son alive. "Look Andre, if you can't fight for yourself then I will fight for you," Cookie vows in the video.

Unfortunately, Andre doesn't think he stands a chance against the disease and remains pessimistic about his chances of survival. But his words do nothing to deter Cookie, who refuses to budge on her stance. "Andre, you are not going to die, okay? Not on my watch," she insists.

This week's episode, titled "The Roughest Day," will see Andre's life hanging in the balance. Plus, that casket mystery will finally be revealed, and Lucious and Cookie will address their respective betrayals.

See how it all goes down when Empire wraps Season 5 on Wednesday at 8/7c on Fox.
