Empire: Will Giselle Run Empire Records in Season 5?

Brace yourselves, Empire fans -- Giselle (Nicole Ari Parker) might be the new top dog when the show returns for Season 5.

Deadline reports that Nicole Ari Parker, who plays Eddie Barker's (Forest Whitaker) ex-wife, Giselle, has officially been promoted to a series regular for Season 5. That could mean big changes are afoot for Empire Records when the story picks back up this fall.

Empire's new showrunner, Brett Mahoney, recently told TV Guide that Giselle might be a candidate to run Empire records in the wake of that tragic Season 4 finale. With Anika (Grace Gealey) now out of the picture -- RIP girl -- there's a power vacuum that needs filling.

"Eddie is certainly holding the reigns [of Empire Records] at this point," Mahoney said. "But I don't know that Eddie necessarily is interested in being the manager. Giselle is certainly in there and Eddie has thought of bringing in some sort of a surrogate to run Empire Records."

Empire returns Wednesday's this fall at 8/7c on Fox.
