Surprise, surprise

In a surprise to no one, and despite Billy Eichner's valiant smear campaign, Saturday Night Live won variety sketch series at Sunday's Emmy Awards.
This is only the long-running show's third series prize overall and first since 1993 (the former variety series category was split into variety sketch and variety talk in 2015).
SNL's resurgent, highly politicized 42nd season scored a whopping 22 nominations, including nine for acting, tying it with Westworld as the most nominated series. It won five Emmys at last week's Creative Arts Awards, including guest wins for Dave Chappelle and Melissa McCarthy.

Earlier in Sunday's show, Kate McKinnon won comedy supporting actress for the second year in a row.
SNL beat out Billy on the Street, Documentary Now!, Drunk History, Portlandia and Tracey Ullman's Show.
