If you were thinking to yourself, "Hey, who was that incredibly creepy person in the front row of the Emmys this year?" You were definitely not alone!
In a stealthy peek at the front row of the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards, you may have caught a glimpse of Atlanta's craziest character from Season 2, Teddy Perkins, seated in the front row. He hugged Bill Hader, who won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance in Barry. Many viewers speculated that Donald Glover wore some serious prosthetics to pull of that look for this year's awards — especially considering Hader won the award Glover was up for. Others theorized that Atlanta's Lakeith Stanfield was the one who went full-on Perkins.
So far, no one has confirmed who was under that costume since Glover was spotted sans Perkins getup just after that commercial break. Later that night, Stanfield, Glover and Brian Tyree Henry even posed for a photo with Teddy, ruling them out as candidates. Will the mystery never end?!
No matter who it was, it's looking a lot like we were potentially robbed of an acceptance speech from Teddy Perkins for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. The world is so unfair! It may have given us nightmares for weeks, but it also would have been 100 percent funnier than anything else that happened on stage all night.
At least Perkins was generous enough to congratulate Hader as he walked up to stage to receive his award, giving us a pretty surreal shot of Teddy Perkins hugging Bill Hader. Hader even mentioned him backstage when talking to the press about his win, ""I don't know who that was I hugged but it was the guy from Atlanta, he showed up!"
Update 9/18/18: This story has been updated with new images of the cast of Atlanta with Teddy Perkins.
