Who's New to the Emmys? More Spaces Mean Fresh Faces

An extra slot in this year's Primetime Emmy categories meant fresh, new nominees as Family Guy, Flight of the Conchords, How I Met Your Mother, Jim Parsons, Simon Baker and more newcomers joined Emmy stalwarts like 30 Rock, House and The Office on the ballot.
NBC's 30 Rock was the most-nominated show with 22 nods, and HBO had the most nominations of any network with 99.

Parsons, who announced the nominations for the 61st Primetime Emmys Thursday with Grey's Anatomy's Chandra Wilson, benefited from the new sixth nominee slot, earning a comedy lead actor nomination for his nerd-tastic turn on The Big Bang Theory. Wilson snagged two nominations, for drama supporting actress for Grey's and lead actress in a miniseries or movie for Accidental Friendship.Joining Parsons on the comedy lead actor ticket are defending champ Alec Baldwin (30 Rock), Steve Carell (The Office), Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords), three-time winner Tony Shalhoub (Monk) and Charlie Sheen (Two and a Half Men).All categories were expanded this year to include six nominees instead of five. Seven shows were nominated in the best drama and comedy show categories. (In the past, more shows have been nominated than there were slots because of ties.) Baldwin's Rock co-star, Tina Fey, will be back to defend her comedy lead actress crown against Christina Applegate of the now-defunct Samantha Who?, Toni Collette (United States of Tara), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (The New Adventures of Old Christine), Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds) and Sarah Silverman (The Sarah Silverman Program). Noticeably absent was Ugly Betty's America Ferrera, the 2007 winner. 30 Rock, a two-time defending champ, will look for a three-peat in comedy series against Entourage, How I Met Your Mother, The Office, Weeds, Flight of the Conchords and Family Guy.Six spots weren't enough for the best drama series list either: The seven series vying for the award are defending champ Mad Men, plus Big Love, Breaking Bad, Damages, Dexter, House and Lost.Last year's drama lead actor winner, Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston, is back on the ballot. He's up against Golden Globe winner Gabriel Byrne (In Treatment), Michael C. Hall (Dexter), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Hugh Laurie (House) and The Mentalist's Baker.The drama lead actress race mirrors last year's, with the addition of Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss. The first-time nominee is pitted against defending champ Glenn Close (Damages), Sally Field (Brothers & Sisters), Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit), Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer) and Holly Hunter (Saving Grace).Snubs include 24's Kiefer Sutherland (who missed out on drama lead actor, but earned a miniseries/TV movie lead actor nomination), as well as James Spader, David Duchovny, and three-time comedy supporting actor winner Jeremy Piven. Piven's Entourage co-star Kevin Dillon did make the cut, alongside 30 Rock's Tracy Morgan and Jack McBrayer, as well as Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men), Rainn Wilson (The Office) and Mother's Neil Patrick Harris, who will host the ceremony.
