Here's Every Emma Stone Sketch from the BTS Episode of Saturday Night Live
She's very good at getting meta
Whether it was to promote her ongoing Omaze charity campaign or to openly fangirl over K-pop band BTS, Emma Stone served as host for this weekend's new edition of Saturday Night Live, and her best sketch proved she's got a particular knack for going meta with her roles.
Fans might recall that Stone swept 2017's film awards season and took home a BAFTA, Golden Globe, and, yes, even the coveted Academy Award for her role as the struggling ingenue Mia Dolan in La La Land -- and in SNL's "The Actress," she doubled down on the proof that acting as a struggling actress is definitely Stone's strong suit.
The skit features her as -- you guessed it -- a down-on-her-luck actress who gets a bit part as a cuckolded wife in a gay porn. Instead of saying her lines with the forgettable flatness her director desires, though, Stone's character immerses her very soul into searching for the nuances of this "Dierdre" person she's playing. In doing so, she mentally fabricates an elaborate backstory that's laid out to herself, and us by extension, in a flowery montage sequence that's so lofty and winsome that it's utterly ridiculous in contrast with the lube-littered set she's working on.
She, of course, appreciates her gift for character absorption and remains satisfied with her true pursuit of thespianism, which makes her caricature of a bit actor's frustrating plight even more hilarious.
Other highlights of Stone's fourth run as SNL host include: her monologue, in which she guilted the cast into throwing her an impromptu fourth-timer soiree on-stage; "Ladies Room" which featured her and other women lyrically lamenting their love lives in what they think is a night club restroom; "Dorm Room Posters," which features her as a sizzling poster girl come to life who is the only 2D image who can't help a college kid with his history essay; and "Fashion Coward," which basically promotes a safe space for those of us who are not so sartorially inclined.
Saturday Night Live airs live at 11:30/10:30c on NBC.
