Disney XD Assembles the Avengers for New Animated Series

The big screen isn't the only place to find your favorite superheroes this summer. Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow will kick some bad-guy butt as the stars of a new animated series, Disney XD's Marvel's Avengers Assemble. "People will be blown away," promises Jeph Loeb, the head of Marvel Television, who stresses that these episodes have been made with passion and care. "Our job is to create stories that make your heart race, to re-create that feeling you get when you first open the comic book."

What should get fans' blood pumping is a new addition to the crew: the Falcon, a character from the upcoming Captain America movie sequel who, during a two-part sneak peek airing on Sunday (11am/1oc), swoops in to help avenge Cap's apparent death at the hands of Red Skull. (The series then officially premieres on Sunday, July 7.)

"We have the opportunity to face down some of the greatest villains that exist in the Marvel Universe, and Red Skull plays a huge part," explains Loeb. But he is hesitant to give away too many specifics about upcoming episodes. "There will be epic adventure combined with the human spirit and humor," he vows. Consider us assembled in front of the TV this summer.
