Diane Sawyer is leaving World News in September after five years. Sawyer, 68, will continue to produce and anchor specials for the network under her own unit.

David Muir, who serves as the ABC program's weekend anchor, will take overWorld News' anchor chair. Meanwhile, George Stephanopoulos will become chief anchor at ABC News, while continuing to co-anchor Good Morning America and This Week.

Meet the Big Brother cast

"As much as she loved leading World News to new heights — with so much important, brilliant and impactful reporting and a number one finish in the May sweep — Diane decided that now is the moment to concentrate full time on tackling big issues in new ways," ABC News President James Goldston said in a note to staff on Wednesday.
