Dexter will face off against multiple new serial murderers in Season 2

Michael C. Hall, Dexter: Resurrection
Zach Dilgard/Paramount+Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 ended on a pretty explicit teaser, but fortunately for us the Dexter sequel was a big enough success that Paramount+ with Showtime had no choice but to bring it back for Season 2. In the first season, our "hero," Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), went toe to toe with some of New York's finest murderers and came out the other side more or less intact — though he almost certainly received a whole new serving of trauma and guilt in the process.
Now, production is underway on Dexter: Resurrection Season 2, and we already know a lot about where we're headed in the new batch of episodes. So let's dive in.
We don't have an official release date or window just yet for Season 2, but with the new season confirmed to have started production on April 22, there's a solid chance it could premiere toward the end of 2026. Season 1 was released in July 2025, so we're hopefully looking at just 18 months or so between seasons.
No trailers have been released yet, but you can expect them to be released closer to the show's premiere date. There's also a chance Paramount+ with Showtime will have something to show at San Diego Comic-Con, which is held in late July.
We shouldn't expect too many familiar faces for Season 2, since most of the folks we encountered in Season 1 are dead now. The ones who aren't dead should be back, however. That includes Jack Alcott as Dexter's son, Harrison; Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara; Uma Thurman as Charley Brown; and, of course, Michael C. Hall as Dexter himself. James Remar has also been confirmed to return as Dexter's dead dad, Harry. Desmond Harrington, who guest starred as Miami homicide lieutenant Joey Quinn in Season 1, has been promoted to series regular for Season 2.
We've also got some new folks joining the series in major roles, including Succession star Brian Cox as the New York Ripper — the killer teased in the Season 1 finale — as well as Legion star Dan Stevens as another baddie known as the Five Borough Killer. On the possibly less villainous side of things, Variety reports that we'll also have Bokeem Woodbine and Nona Parker Johnson as new series regulars. Woodbine will play Captain Mixon, head of an NYPD homicide team, and Johnson will play his daughter, who's not only on her dad's homicide squad, but will apparently be Harrison Morgan's new love interest.
Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 cast
Thanks to the teaser at the end of Season 1, it looks like the New York Ripper — a retired killer named Don Framt who was mentioned a couple different times during the season — will be the main bad guy in Season 2. But with Dexter in possession of all of Leon Prater's files, which detailed several other serial murderers that Prater had been fanboying over, you can expect another ensemble of killers in the new season. Dan Stevens' Five Borough Killer will be one of them.
On top of Dexter's hunt, we'll also continue to follow Harrison as he struggles with his violent nature. Apparently he'll have a love interest in Season 2 — a young NYPD homicide cop whose dad runs her squad. That's an extremely fraught social situation for somebody like Harrison to put himself in. And that's even before you consider that her police captain dad is a prime candidate to be a secret killer himself — it's just the kind of thing that happens on Dexter.
You should also expect part of Season 2 to revolve around Dexter's guilt over Angel's death during Season 1. While Dexter didn't actually kill him, Angel's death is certainly Dexter's fault, just like the deaths of his sister and Doakes and LaGuerta. Dexter will definitely have to spend some time coping with that new trauma.
All of Dexter and its sequel and prequel series are available to stream on Paramount+.
