Many famous faces are coming to Designated Survivor this season, but none have us buzzing quite as much as Kim Raver. The actress joined the series as the innovative and powerful tech entrepreneur Andrea Frost, and she'll be back in the March 28 episode and we have the first photographic evidence!
Now, I know what you're thinking: "Hey, President Tom Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland) lost his wife and now he's getting close to a new attractive lady, I see what's going on here!" But slow your roll there, because these two have a purely platonic relationship.
"We're going to introduce [a character played by] Kim Raver, who will be a friend. I will call her an emotional, intimate friend over the course of the back half of the season," showrunner Keith Eisner told TV Guide recently.
You'd be forgiven for thinking that some romantic sparks will fly, as Raver's Audrey Raines and Sutherland's Jack Bauer previously hooked up on 24. But Eisner wants everyone to know that this is a different show, and Tom will be mourning the loss of Alex for a while.
"I want to be clear, this is not 24," Eisner said. "I don't want to get too specific on that relationship, but it really is a friendship, but a friendship with some interesting aspects to it."
Eisner previously told us that much of Tom's struggles following the death of his wife would go beyond how he struggles with the grief and also explore how he's perceived by others and if people think he's fit to be president. It sounds like he'll have issues with his public image coming up, and I can't imagine strutting around in public and eating ice cream with Raver's character will help.
Designated Survivor airs Wednesday nights at 10/9c on ABC.
