Derek Hough will not appear on Dancing with the Stars this season, TVGuide.com has confirmed.

Hough has been a dancing pro on the ABC series since Season 5. Out of the 15 seasons he competed in, Hough won six Mirrorball trophies, including with Bindi Irwin during Season 21.

This is not the first time Hough has taken a season off. He skipped out on Season 12 to film the movie Make Your Move 3D and also announced that he would not compete during Season 20. However, Hough wound up competing that season with Nastia Liukin on the L.A.-based show while simultaneously performing in the New York Spring Spectacular.

Dancing with the Star's sexiest costumes

It's possible Hough's upcoming New York gig could have something to do with his absence from Season 22. The dancer was recently cast in the Gene Kelly role in Broadway's revival of Singin' In the Rain, which opens January 2017.

His sister, Julianne Hough, will also not be returning to DWTS as a judge.

But even without the Houghs, Season 22 is shaping up to be quite an interesting bunch. Full Housestar Jodie Sweetin and deaf America's Next Top Modelwinner Nyle DiMarco are both confirmed as contestants. Sweetin is partnered with Keo Motsepe, she announced Wednesday on Good Morning America. Len Goodman will also return to judge. The full cast will be announced on March 8.

Dancing with the Stars returns Monday, March 21 at 8/7c on ABC.
