Dennis Quaid and Wife Settle Babies' Overdose for $750,000

Actor Dennis Quaid and his wife Kimberly have reached a $750,000 settlement agreement with Cedars-Siani Medical Center for the accidental overdose of Quaid's newborn twins in 2007.
The agreement, which is pending the approval of a Los Angeles judge, ends the lawsuit filed by Quaid after twins Thomas Boone and Zoe Grace were accidentally given an overdose of blood thinner Heparin in November 2007, two weeks after they were born via gestational carrier. The children, now in good health after recovering, spent weeks battling for their lives.
The papers filed in L.A. Superior Court Monday say the settlement is the "result of extensive negotiations between the parties ... and is intended to avoid the time, expense and uncertainty of litigation." Cedars-Sinai has also been fined $25,000 by the California Department of Public Health, has apologized to the patients' families and has taken steps to better train the staff.
Additionally, the Quaids have filed suit against Baxter Healthcare Corp., the makers of Heparin, accusing the company of negligence in the packaging of adult and pediatric doses in similar vials.
