Denis Leary Joins Animal Kingdom Season 3

Animal Kingdom is getting a kick in the a--.

Rescue Me and Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll star Denis Leary is joining the cast of TNT's crime drama for Season 3, the network announced Tuesday. Leary will be playing Billy, Smurf's (Ellen Barkin) youngest son Deran's (Jake Weary) drifter dad who she kicked out years ago.

"Denis Leary's extensive and successful career playing complicated, flawed characters makes him the perfect addition to this badass Animal Kingdom family," said Sarah Aubrey, executive vice president of original programming for TNT. Leary was nominated for writing and acting Emmys for Rescue Me, on which he played self-destructive FDNY firefighter Tommy Gavin for seven seasons.

Animal Kingdom follows the complex relationships of the criminal Cody family, led by steely matriarch Smurf. It's based on an Australian film by director David Michod.

Animal Kingdom Season 3 premieres this summer.
