Read his colleague's loving tribute
Ralph Richeson, who played the antler-loving cook Richardson on HBO's Deadwood, has died at the age of 63, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He died of heart failure at Palmdale Regional Medical Center.
Richeson was discovered when he began working on the Western show as an extra. Showrunner David Milch admired his unique look and developed a role just for him.
"I don't think there was anyone remotely involved in the show who didn't love Ralph," Jim Beaver, who played Whitney Ellsworth on Deadwood, wrote on Facebook. "He was kind, infinitely sweet and far, far smarter than his character. I will miss you forever my friend. I raise antlers in honor of your passage."
Richeson went on to appear in Hancock, The Revenant and an episode of Parks and Recreation after Deadwood ended.
