Despite favorable reviews, there will be no Season 2 for Swamp Thing. DC Universe has canceled the horror-fantasy series less than a week after its May 31 premiere.

The series, which was created by Battlestar Galactica's Mark Verheiden and It's Gary Dauberman, centers on CDC agent Abby Arcane (Teen Wolf's Crystal Reed), who returns to her hometown of Houma, Louisiana, to investigate an epidemic involving a swamp-borne virus. Tragedy strikes when she forms a sweet romance with disgraced scientist Alec Holland (Poweralum Andy Bean) only to watch him seemingly die and come back as the Swamp Thing.

Part offbeat origin story and part environmentalist doctrine, the show's journey to DC's streaming site has been a difficult one filled with major setbacks: Filming on Season 1 abruptly ended due to behind-the-scenes issues, and the episode count was slashed from 13 to 10.

Swamp Thing thing was DC Universe's third original series after Titans, which has been renewed for Season 2, and Doom Patrol, which is still waiting in limbo.
