In his first interview since leaving rehab last month, David Arquette tells Oprah Winfrey he had his first taste of beer when he was just 4 years old.

"I was down in the basement with my dad and the beer was there and I just grabbed it and drank it," Arquette says in an interview airing on The Oprah Winfrey Show Thursday. "I remember that. It's one of my earliest memories."

David Arquette checks out of rehab

The Scream actor, 39, entered rehab at the beginning of the new year for alcohol treatment and checked out at the end of January. His rehab stint followed his highly publicized October separation from wife Courteney Cox.

In the interview, Arquette says he stole marijuana from his father when he was 8 and started "seriously drinking" at the age of 12. He also discusses his intervention staged by Cox and his sister, Patricia Arquette. "I came back from Miami and I had taken a nap and I woke up and Patricia and Courteney were at my bed," he says. "I was like, 'What are you two doing here together?'"

It didn't take him long to figure out what was really going on. "My best friend was there, my business partner and some guy I don't know, and I go, 'What up, turkeys? I guess this is my intervention,'" he says.

Arquette also tells Winfrey that following the intervention, he has been sober since Dec. 30.
