Dave Brockie, Frontman for Heavy Metal Group GWAR, Dies at 50

Dave Brockie, the frontman for the heavy metal group GWAR, has died, according to The Associated Press. He was 50. Brockie was found dead inside his Richmond, Va., home Sunday evening. A cause of death has yet to be determined, but no foul play is suspected.

The singer, who went by the stage name Oderus Urungus, performed in an intergalactic costume. The Grammy-nominated band, founded in 1984, was known for its outlandish costumes and vulgar lyrics. The group released its 13th album last year.
"Dave was one of the funniest, smartest, most creative and energetic persons I've known," former Gwar bassist Mike Bishop told Richmond paper Style Weekly. "He was brash sometimes, always crass, irreverent, he was hilarious in every way. But he was also deeply intelligent and interested in life, history, politics and art." 

In 2011, the group's lead guitarist, 34-year-old Cory Smoot, was found dead on their tour bus.
