"John Goodman's phenomenal body of work speaks for itself. And we've been huge fans of his for years," executive producer Todd Kessler told USA Today, which first reported the news. "It's a real thrill to be adding an actor of John's extensive range and talent to the cast of Damages. We can't wait to pit him against Glenn Close and Rose Byrne in our fourth season."

The 58-year-old actor, who has starred in The Big Lebowski, Blues Brothers 2000 and Roseanne, most recently appeared on HBO's Treme. Previous antagonists for Patty Hewes (Close) include Ted Danson, William Hurt, Martin Short and Campbell Scott.

The fourth season of Damages will air exclusively on DirecTV. It is slated to premiere this summer.
