Community Showrunners Share What to Expect of the (Possible Series) Finale

It feels as though Oct. 19 was just yesterday. Could this really be the end? Thursday's Community will wrap up the fourth season and possibly the series, depending on whether or not NBC decides to give the cult comedy one last shot. We chatted with showrunners David Guarascio and Moses Port to get the scoop on what might be our final trip to Greendale.

It feels as though Oct. 19 was just yesterday. Could this really be the end?

Thursday's Communitywill wrap up the fourth season and possibly the series, depending on whether or not NBC decides to give the cult comedy one last shot. We chatted with showrunners David Guarascio and Moses Port to get the scoop on what might be our final trip to Greendale.

Jeff (Joel McHale) has enough credits to graduate. What can you tell us about his journey in the finale? Will he finally get some closure?
David Guarascio and Moses Port:
Since the idea of "closure" is a phony construct invented by modern humans to try to make sense of the chaos of their lives, no.  But Jeff's journey should be darn satisfying.

The darkest timeline is back! What can you share about the return of the study group's evil alter egos?
Guarascio and Port:
You won't be sure whom to root for. Darkness can be so... alluring, can't it?

Save these shows! 12 bubble shows we hope will survive

In "Intro to Knots," Evil Jeff and Evil Annie (Alison Brie) said they were going to destroy the prime timeline. How will the (non-Evil) study group attempt to save it?
Guarascio and Port:
Hmm. So you're sure they want to save it?  An interesting assumption.

Jim Rash told TVGuide.com that Evil Abed (Danny Pudi) won't be exactly like what we've seen before. Say what?
Guarascio and Port:
This year Abed has worked hard to accept that, whether he likes it or not, change happens. He's even embraced it here and there. Maybe Evil Abed is not so different. Maybe.

Can you give any hints as to what amazedean outfits Dean Pelton has in store for us?
Guarascio and Port:
Just that the Dean looks stunning. As usual. But that's more about the actor than the character. Jim Rash can make anything look good on him. Some guys just have it, you know?

Anything else you can tease about the finale?
Guarascio and Port:
There's some very hot, suggested almost-sex. It might almost get one worked up.

Ken Jeong has signed on to the ABC pilot Spy. If Community were to continue, is there a chance Chang might not return?
Guarascio and Port:
No way. Chang stays. Sorry, Spy.

Is there anything you would have changed this season?
Guarascio and Port:
The only things we'd change we had no control over:  premiered in the fall on Thursday and made more episodes. I mean, sure, there are always some creative decisions you'd like to go back and redo.  But if we think about that for too long a spring will pop out of our heads. Gotta look forward.

Can you give us any updates on your chance of renewal?
Guarascio and Port:
The show comes back in the prime timeline. It does not come back in the darkest timeline.  And this is how we're all going to find out which timeline were actually living in. So the fortune of our universe is essentially riding on the outcome here.  Cross your fingers, folks.

If this does turn out to be the series finale, will fans be satisfied? Will you?
Guarascio and Port:
That's a question tainted by the darkest timeline.  It will not be answered!

Who do you think will have hot "almost-sex"? Do you think the Greendale Seven will be corrupted by the darkest timeline?

Community's fourth season finale airs Thursday at 8/7c.
