Chris Rock Sells Socio-Political Comedy Series to FX

Chris Rock will usher in new talent to FX.

The comedian will executive-produce a six-episode series starring standup comedian W. Kamau Bell that will premiere this summer, the network announced Wednesday. In the series, Bell will offer up his take on politics, pop culture, race, religion, media and sex during each half hour.

"I think Kamau is one of the funniest guys out there and I can't wait to work with the good people at FX," Rock said in a statement.

"The presentation pilot that Chris and Kamau shot was terrific," Nick Grad, FX's executive vice president of original programming, added. "Kamau is a tremendous young comedian who has a very smart and sharp take on life. Working with Chris will only bring out the best of his talents. This series, along with Russell Brand's Strangely Uplifting, puts FX on really solid footing in the late-night arena."

Bell is a socio-political comic who founded the comedy group Laughter Against the Machine. Punchline Magazine and iTunes named his standup album, Face Full of Flour, as one of the Top 10 Best Comedy Albums of 2010.

Rock will be seen in Lionsgate's What to Expect What You're Expecting in May and as the voice of Marty the zebra in DreamWorks' Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted.
