Chris Pine may never definitively become Hollywood's Best Chris, but there's a good chance he'll become the first Chris to EGOT, at least based on the trailer for his TNT series.
The network dropped the first look at Pine's upcoming limited series I Am the Night, which finds the actor reteaming with his Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins. The six-episode series stars Pine as Jay Singletary, a hack reporter whose coverage of a young woman's (India Eisley) search for her true identity may be the key to his redemption.
Originally titled One Day She'll Darken, the series is based on the true story of Fauna Hodel, who was given away at birth to a black casino restroom attendant in 1949. When Fauna eventually begins looking into her past, she finds herself on a trail that leads her to the infamous gynecologist, Dr. George Hodel, who was a suspect in the Black Dahlia murder.
The limited series has everything the Television Academy loves — a gripping true story, a buzzy director and an A-list movie star — so we imagine an Emmy nomination is all but a lock for Pine next year. Now, he just needs to line up that Oscar, Grammy and Tony, which shouldn't be too hard given that he has the voice of an angel and plenty of exciting films coming up.
Pine previously scored an Emmy nomination in 2016 for his voiceover work in SuperMansion, and has made several other notable television appearances in recent years. He starred as a wacky government assassin in Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later and First Day of Camp, and he memorably played a parody of Hannibal Lecter in TBS' Angie Tribeca. He's currently filming Wonder Woman 1984 with Jenkins, with the film expected to drop in November 2019.
With I Am the Night premiering in January 2019, it sounds like we're quickly approaching the year of Pine. So get ready, Pine Nuts. It's almost your time to shine.
