"I am very sad and very ashamed of what I've done. My mother and my spiritual teachers taught me way better than that," Brown said. "I've told Rihanna countless times and I'm telling you today, that I'm truly, truly sorry that I wasn't able to handle the situation both differently and better."
Brown pleaded guilty in June to felony assault on Rihanna, his former girlfriend, in February. Under a plea deal announced during his preliminary hearing, he did not receive jail time.

At the beginning of the two-minute video, Brown said he wanted to speak out in February, when he was arrested, but his attorney advised him not to. He also said he couldn't go into details about what he called "the incident" and didn't want to make excuses. He also said he grew up in a home with domestic violence, and was seeking help to ensure that what happened in February "never happens again."
