Sabrina stars Mad Men's Kiernan Shipka as the titular half-human, half-witch, who's trying to balance her education as a sorceress with her normal life at Baxter High. But thanks to the pressure to pledge her life to the Dark Lord, anti-mortal prejudices, a love triangle and some nefarious plots to contend with, Sabrina's 16th year is anything but sweet.
It's a much darker take than the goofy Sabrina the Teenage Witch with Melissa Joan Hart, which makes sense given the series isn't rebooting the TGIF comedy but an adaptation of the Archie Horror comic book series of the same name written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who executive-produces Sabrina and Riverdale. The series was originally conceived of as a companion series to Riverdale on the CW, but the close connection fell by the wayside once it went to Netflix. However, Riverdale and Sabrina do take place in the same universe, although a crossover is unlikely.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina arrives on Netflix in high spooky szn, Friday, Oct. 26.
