We have our first official look at the new Sabrina Spellman in action!
On Monday, Netflix released two official photos from The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina starring Mad Men's Kiernan Shipka in the titular role, and they tease a dark take on the iconic Archie Comics character. In the photos below, Sabrina dons a stylish red peacoat — the same one seen in a previously-released set pic of her holding hands with Harvey (Ross Lynch). Watch out, we're pretty sure this look will be seen at all the Halloween parties this October.
The second pic is even more ominous in tone, featuring Sabrina in the midst of her magical baptism by Father Blackwood (Richard Coyle), with her aunts Hilda (Lucy Davis) and Zelda Spellman (Miranda Otto) proudly looking on.
The series is described as a dark coming-of-age story mixing horror and the occult in a similar vein as Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist. It finds Sabrina grappling with her dual identities as both a witch and a mortal as she battles the evil that threatens her, her family and a world full of humans.
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who currently serves as Riverdale's showrunner and the CCO of Archie Comics, wrote the script. He is set to executive-produce alongside his Riverdale cohorts Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater and Lee Toland Krieger.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina heads to Netflix on Friday, Oct. 26.
