The increasingly lazy British cutup—witness the low-effort, low-impact HBO cartoon of his podcasts, The Ricky Gervais Show—treated his guest role as Louis C.K.'s doctor on the stand-up's wildly uneven new FX sitcom like, well, a bad joke. Cackling and needling his patient—including repeatedly telling him he has AIDS (what a panic!)—he seemed less like a physician than like TV's Ricky Gervais "having a laff."

After his blasé turn as host of the Golden Globes, Gervais is in serious danger of becoming officially too cool for school. One can only hope he works up a bit more excitement for his upcoming guest shot on Curb Your Enthusiasm.
