As creepy mom next door Constance on FX's gleefully over-the-top shocker, the two-time Academy Award-winning actress (Tootsie, Blue Sky) seems to be channeling Kim Stanley's acclaimed work as her mother from hell in the 1982 Hollywood biopic Frances. Lange — who won an Emmy in 2009 as a very different kind of spooky matriarch in HBO's Grey Gardens — could take home another statuette for her eerie turn here.
She's not the only standout HBO alum among AHS' stellar ensemble. Six Feet Under's Frances Conroy is a scream as an aging chambermaid, and True Blood's Denis O'Hare continues his serial scene-stealing ways as a mysterious burn victim. Truth be told, the entire cast is terrifyingly talented.
