The prognosis is good for Chasing Life.
The freshman drama, about a young woman (Italia Ricci) battling leukemia, has been renewed for a second season, ABC Family announced Thursday.
"Through the laughter and the tears, our audience has connected with the characters and relationships in Chasing Life and we are thrilled to continue telling April's courageous story," ABC Family's EVP Programming and Development, Karey Burke, said in a statement. "Chasing Life has found a home here."
Season 2 will consist of 13 episodes, which will follow a special Christmas episode (Dec. 9 at 9/8c) and the upcoming second-half of Season 1, set to bow in January.
Based on the telenovela Terminales, Chasing Life got an early vote of confidence from ABC Family when the network picked up seven additional episodes ahead of the drama's June premiere. The first 10 episodes of Season 1 averaged 1.17 million viewers.
