CBS Renews Extant and Under the Dome

CBS has renewed summer shows Extant and Under the Dome, the network announced on Thursday. "We're committed to delivering our viewers and advertisers year-round programming with a wide variety of storytelling," CBS Entertainment Chairman Nina Tassler said in a statement. "We continue to see summer as a great place for unique concepts, innovative business models and passionate television audiences."

The Steven Spielberg-produced Extant stars Halle Berry as an astronaut who mysteriously becomes pregnant at the same time her robot son predicts an impending extinction. The freshman season averaged 8.64 million weekly viewers, according to CBS. Stephen King's Under the Dome, about a group of residents who survive an apocalypse, was the network's top summer scripted series with 11 million weekly viewers.

Both shows will joins previously announced drama Zoo, based on James Patterson's bestselling novel, along with Big Brother for summer 2015. The soapy Southern legal drama Reckless will not return, while Unforgettable's fate has yet to be decided.
