Johnny Galecki's By the Book Ordered to Series by CBS

By "book," we mean The Bible

Cory Barker

CBS' busy day continues. The network has announced a series order for the Jay R. Ferguson/David Krumholtz sitcom, By The Book (previously known as Livingly Biblically).

Based on the best-selling A.J. Jacobs book, "The Year of Living Biblically," By the Book follows a man (Ferguson) at a life crossroads who decides to live each day according to The Good Book. And by "Good Book," We of course mean The Bible. The show becomes CBS' second multicamera comedy pick-up of the day, following Mark Feuerstein's 9JKL.

In the cast alongside Ferguson (Mad Men) and Krumholtz (Num3ers) are Lindsey Kraft, Ian Gomez, Tony Rock and Camryn Manheim. The pilot was written by Patrick Walsh and directed by Andy Ackerman. The Big Bang Theory's Johnny Galecki serves as an executive producer.

By the Book becomes the eighth pilot -- and fourth sitcom -- ordered to series by CBS. Earlier today, the network announced a whole mass of orders, including Shemar Moore's S.W.A.T. and Me, Myself and I, a single camera sitcom tracing one man's life over the course of 50 years.

CBS will announce its 2017-2018 fall schedule on Wednesday, May 17.
