CBS has given a pilot order to Matthew Perry'sOdd Couplereboot, TVGuide.com has learned.

Perry will star in, co-write and executive-produce the comedy, which is also being written by Joe Keenan. Elementaryproducers Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman, and Two and a Half Men executive producers Eric and Kim Tannenbaum will also executive-produce.

The best and worst TV reboots

The comedy is a modern-take of Neil Simon's Broadway 1965 play about polar opposite roommates. The play went on to become a 1968 movie starring Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon, and later, a TV show starring Jack Klugman and Tony Randall. The series ran from 1970 to 1975 on ABC, but was produced by CBS Television Distribution.

In this incarnation, Perry will play the easygoing Oscar Madison. Oscar's uptight roommate, Felix Ungar, has yet to be cast.

Fall 2014 TV Scorecard: What's renewed? What's canceled?

The Odd Couple reboot would mark Perry's first multi-camera comedy shot in front of a live studio audience since Friends. Following the sitcom's end in 2004, Perry has starred on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Mr. Sunshineand Go On, and has recurred on The Good Wife. Perry recently reunited with his old co-star Courteney Cox on Cougar Town.

Would you watch a reboot of The Odd Couple? Who do you think should play the Felix to Perry's Oscar?
