Will you invite Nina Dobrev into your home again?

The Vampire Diaries star is returning to TV for her first starring role since leaving the CW supernatural drama with the CBS comedy Fam. The network announced that the series has been picked up on Friday.

Dobrev stars as Clem, a woman whose perfect life with her fiancé Jay (Tone Bell) gets thrown out of whack when Shannon (Odessa Adlon), her train wreck of a half-sister, shows up unannounced to escape their train wreck of a father and moves in. Shannon's presence obviously leads to tension between Clem and Jay, not only because she's a troublemaker, but also because Clem told Jay her father was dead. Trust issues! Brian Stokes Mitchell and Sheryl Lee Ralph co-star as Jay's very respectable parents.

The series was created by Corinne Kingsbury. Kingsbury will have two shows on the air at once next season; her drama series In the Dark was picked up by The CW.

Fam joins the Murphy Brown reboot, Cedric the Entertainer's Welcome to the Neighborhood and the Untitled Damon Wayans, Jr. Project as comedies CBS has ordered to series for next season. The network has also ordered dramas FBI, God Friended Me, The Code and The Red Line.

(Full disclosure: TV Guide is owned by CBS.)
