Every year there are gag Halloween costumes that spark some anger, but this year's Caitlyn Jenner costume is causing some particularly outraged reactions, accusing the costume and the company that makes it of being transphobic.

The costume, priced at a hefty $74.99, parodies Jenner's Vanity Fair cover, with a wig, padded bustier, shorts and a sash that reads "Call Me Caitlyn."

Despite the outcry, costume retailer Spirit Halloween isn't intending to pull the getup, according to USA Today. The company is even defending the costume as a "celebration" of Jenner. "At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based on celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes. Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and our Caitlyn-inspired costume reflects just that," marketing director Lisa Barr said in a statement.

Caitlyn Jenner may be charged with manslaughter stemming from February crash

But not everyone outside of Twitter agrees with the "celebration."

"There's no tasteful way to 'celebrate' Caitlyn Jenner or respect transgender people this way on the one night of the year when people use their most twisted imaginations to pretend to be villains and monsters," said Vincent Villano, a spokesman for the National Center for Transgender Equality.

"When transgender women step out into the world as their authentic selves, they aren't wearing a costume," added Nick Adams, a spokesman for GLAAD. "Companies should think twice before seeking to profit from mocking trans women."

Meanwhile...it is possible that the company was unsettled by the public response to a costume, considering that it's nowhere to be found on their website. Though it is still available through AnytimeCostumes.com and WholesaleHalloweenCostumes.com.

What do you think of the Caitlyn Jenner costume? Is it offensive or innocent Halloween fun?
