The 43-year-old rapper was taken into custody around 8:30 p.m. at a gym in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood after getting into a dispute with an employee there, according to the Daily News. He reportedly threw a 17-ounce cardboard container of a strawberry protein drink at the employee's head.
It's unclear what the altercation was about, but witnesses told police that this isn't the first time the two have clashed, and that Rhymes had been asked to leave the gym after approaching the front desk to buy a drink. A previous argument between Rhymes and the gym employee occurred when the employee refused to let Rhymes bring a cameraman into the gym to film his workout.
The employee was not seriously injured, according to the Daily News, but Rhymes - whose real name is Trevor Tahiem Smith Jr. - was charged with second degree assault. He was released early Thursday and addressed the incident in an Instagram post:
